When Is a Vehicle Appraisal Worth It?
Not every damage needs a full appraisal – but in most cases it's more worthwhile than many think.
The minor damage threshold
Reference is often made to a minor damage threshold below which no report is said to be necessary. In practice this lies at around €750. However, given the rise in repair costs and spare part prices, even seemingly small amounts of damage now quickly exceed it. When in doubt, a report is worthwhile.
When is a report advisable?
A report is advisable for any third-party liability claim above the minor damage threshold, for comprehensive claims involving higher sums, where liability is unclear or shared, where hidden damage is suspected, and in the event of a total loss in order to establish the replacement value.
When is a cost estimate sufficient?
For very minor damage with a clear set of facts, a garage cost estimate may be sufficient. Please note, however: a cost estimate documents neither diminished value nor replacement value.
