What you should know

How much does a vehicle appraisal cost?

For liability claims, the opposing insurance covers the full cost. For comprehensive claims, your own insurer usually covers the appraisal costs above a certain damage threshold.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. We come to you – personal on-site inspection is our standard and legally required. We serve the entire Wülfrath, Velbert, Mettmann, Düsseldorf and Wuppertal area.

Can I freely choose my appraiser?

Yes! As an accident victim, you have the legal right to choose your own appraiser.

How long does an appraisal take?

The on-site inspection typically takes 30–60 minutes. You usually receive the finished report within 1–2 business days.

Can Autounfall24 handle the claims process?

We prepare your technical damage report – complete and precise. For legal enforcement, we recommend a specialized traffic law attorney if needed.

What happens with shared fault or unclear liability?

Even with shared fault, you are entitled to an independent appraisal. The costs are proportionally reimbursed by the opposing insurer according to the liability ratio. In cases of unclear liability, a detailed appraisal is particularly important as it forms the basis for fair claims settlement. We recommend a traffic law attorney for the legal clarification.

Does Autounfall24 also create valuations for classic cars?

Yes! We create professional valuations for classic cars, youngtimers and modern vehicles. Our valuations are created using the Value Report software – a recognized system with an extensive market database for classic and modern vehicles.

What is the difference between liability and comprehensive damage?

Liability damage occurs when another person caused the accident – the opposing insurance covers all costs, including appraisal fees. Comprehensive damage results from your own fault, wildlife collisions, stone chips or similar events – your own insurance settles the claim.

Do I need an appraisal for minor damage?

The threshold for so-called minor damage is hardly relevant today – due to rising repair costs and parts prices, even smaller damages quickly exceed the threshold. When in doubt, an appraisal is worthwhile to fully secure your claims.

How much does a classic car valuation cost?

A classic car valuation starts from €180 – the exact price depends on the effort, vehicle type and scope of the assessment. Contact us for an individual quote.

How does a vehicle inspection work?

The inspection takes place at the workshop, at your location or at our office, depending on the vehicle condition. The vehicle is thoroughly documented and photographed. Please bring the vehicle registration and accident report.

Can the insurance reject my appraiser?

No – for liability claims, you as the injured party have the right to freely choose your appraiser. The opposing insurance may not impose their own appraiser on you.

What happens if the insurance reduces the appraisal?

Reductions by insurers are unfortunately common today. If your claims are reduced, we recommend consulting a specialized traffic law attorney. Feel free to contact us – we support you with the technical clarification.

When is a short appraisal worthwhile?

A short appraisal is mainly suitable for smaller damages below the minor damage threshold or when quick damage documentation is needed. For larger damages, we recommend a full appraisal to secure all claims.

Does the appraiser have to come on-site?

An on-site inspection is of course possible by arrangement – we are happy to come to you or to the workshop. You can also bring your vehicle directly to our office.

What is the replacement value?

The replacement value is the amount you would need to spend to acquire an equivalent vehicle in comparable condition on the regional used car market. This value is central to claims settlement, especially in cases of total loss.

How quickly will I receive my appraisal?

You will usually receive your finished appraisal within 1 to 3 business days after the inspection – depending on the extent of the damage. We work Monday to Friday.

Unclear liability

Shared Fault & Unclear Liability –
Securing your claims

Liability is not always clear-cut. With shared fault or disputed liability, an independent report is especially important – it documents the damage neutrally and forms the basis for fair settlement.

1

What does shared fault mean?

With shared fault, both accident parties bear co-responsibility. Liability is divided proportionally – e.g. 50/50, 70/30 or by individual assessment. An independent report is crucial for correct claims settlement.

2

Why is a report so important with shared fault?

With shared fault, costs are reimbursed proportionally. A detailed report ensures the full damage amount is captured – only then will your share be correctly settled.

3

Who bears the report costs?

Report costs are proportionally covered by the opposing liability insurer – according to the determined liability ratio. Even with shared fault, you have the right to an independent expert.

4

Unclear liability?

If liability is not yet clarified, secure an independent report as soon as possible. Damage documentation is time-critical – the sooner, the better. For the legal clarification, we recommend a traffic law attorney.

Typical shared fault situations

Intersection accidents with unclear right of way · Rear-end collisions with lane changes · Parking lot accidents · Lane change accidents · Chain accidents with multiple parties
